8 Gigabyte

•October 13, 2007 • Leave a Comment

I found my 1 Gbyte too small. So I wanted to buy a new one. I was looking for a MP3 player with a lot of Gigabytes but it still had to have a flash memory. Last year i was looking at the X5L of iaudio but it had a hard disc. This year the iaudio 7 came and i was immediately interested in that one. Of course i checked other brands but one big advantage of iaudio MP3 players is you can use them on Windows, Mac and Linux computers.

So i bought the iaudio 7. I immediately bought a case/bag for it. Because of the case i don’t have to put the player on hold. So i can still use the volume buttons if the player is in my pocket. If you want to navigate through the menu’s you use the Swing Touch buttons. It’s very easy to use after you get used to it. Most have different functions with different settings. I don’t believe it is the most intuitive player but i like it. You can watch pictures and video’s on it, but i wouldn’t buy it for that reason. I bought to play loads of music. And it’s very good at that. You have jeteffect which you can you to adjust the sound to your needs. And i really like the battery time, i can use for seven days of course it’s not on for 24 hours in a row) before having to reload it.

Privacy on the internet

When you surf on the Internet, you normally don’t do that anonymous, even if you use a nickname. There are several ways available to figure out somebody’s identity. I don’t use a proxy server. And i don’t use any other way to hide my IP address. So it is relatively easy to find my real identity.

I don’t need to watch child porn. I don’t have any dangerous or strange  political idea’s (at least not that i know of). So i always say: i have nothing to hide.  But in other countries you get prisoned for even normal political ideas (at least i think they are normal ).  Also the Internet can get blocked. If you consider this, there is a need for anonymous Internet.

But if you look at fora where people have the feeling they are anonymous. The curses you find there. Sometimes you see words i don’t even use in real live let alone on the Internet. Here in Holland people buy only a train ticket if they get a control. If they wouldn’t get checked they wouldn’t buy a train ticket. I always thought you bought a ticket for transport not for the controllers. So you need some sort of control to keep civilised world.

But still i think you should be able to internet anonymous. And abuse should in some way be punished; not that i know how.

Videoclips in den bosch

It is a strange experience. You enter a room with 50 televisions on but no sound. In the ’stedelijk museum‘ of den Bosch was an exhibition about video-clips and video art. My ears and eyes got tired of this exhibition. At a certain i took a break and later on i came back to see some more videoclips. Some videoclips i only saw on YouTube. now i have seen them on television. Some of my favorites were:

Menno Otten:
Track 4 – Aardvarck
& U-gene

Matte Mourik/Andre van Hout/ Stella Zelm:
De onbekende – De Kift

Arthur Ivens&Smart Rascall:
U ain’t like me – Kubus&Bang Bang

100% Halal:
Shitty Bum – C-mon&Kypski

And this last one is made during the opening of the exhibition:

Roel Wouters aka Xelor

If you arrive in Middelburg by train, you see the ‘Lange Jan’ with the lights. So you won’t get lost that easily. We followed the lights and arrived at the Abdijplein. A lot of people were standing close to eachother. And i still was wondering where the stage was. The advantage of this (tiny) stage was that you could walk around it.  It would be really nice if it was half a metre higher.

It was almost half past nine when a man walked by with a lot of empty glasses and one full one. He seemed to look for his friends. Just a few minutes later i saw him on stage; it was Joris Caluwaerts from the band. Apperently he was looking for a way through the audience.

Next time i want to make notes because i really can’t remember with which song they started.  I walked around to see where i had the best view. The band was grouped in a kind of circle. They could all face eachother. Tom Pintens was was walking between the piano and his place next to the background vocalists. The best view was near the background vocalists.

The first hour they played more slow and quiet songs and the last quarter (half) an hour they rocked more. The last song they played after eleven while Billie King (Billie Kinkie as Stef camil Carlens called her) was scheduled at eleven. During that last song we went home. We had to catch the train. The last two regular records were not my favourite ones, but the concert was so good i want to see more of them.

Sonata Mix Dwarf Cosmos

•September 13, 2007 • Leave a Comment

If i look at my cd collection, there are a couple of things i’ve noticed. First of all the big percentage of cd’s which are made by english and american artists. Secondly, they are mainly made by male artists. and third of all, my cd collection is rather white. If i see what i bought this year, i want apperently to catch up with the women and the european music (especially scandinavian music). The latest cd of Susanna (Wallumød, originated from Norway). These cd has the intruiging title ‘Sonata Mix Dwarf Cosmos’. She seems to answer the question ‘how minimal can you make music’? If you have such a voice as hers you don’t need much more than just her voice. Her voice is the centrepoint of the music. In most of the songs just one or two instruments are added. A beautiful addition to my cd collection.

Internet: A blessing or a curse

The internet is a curse and a blessing at the same time. I am trying to get my hands on ‘Little things’, a cd made by hanne Hukkelberg. I stumbled on the website of her record company, which is called ‘Propeller recordings‘ .They wrote on their site th ‘Little Things will be re-released and it will be available in Norway on 27 august. I am curious about the the date for the dutch re-release. In this way the internet is a blessing.

I read a lot about music on the internet. And i checked a couple of names. I checked the lates cd made by Susanna and releases from Loney, Dear and Patrick watson. According to the internet those the record of Susanna should be in the shops at 20 august, but he wasn’t there. And Patrick Watson’s cd only arrives at the shop at 12 september.

Through the internet i get to know more and more music which is not for sale in the netherlands. That’s why i think internet is a curse.

Apple vs. Windows

•August 20, 2007 • Leave a Comment

This year i want to make small movies at home. Before i can edit on my computer, i need the right software. I also need a video camera. My computer is quite slow and doesn’t have a big hard drive. So i want to buy a new one. I want to make a proper choice between Windows and Mac.

I grew up with Windows. I know how it works. I can solve problems, so for me that’s easy. However Apple always had an advantage in graphical software. I saw Final Cut pro which i liked. I know there is free animation programm available for the mac.

But for  didn’t make a choice yet. We’ll see.
